Raising Money Savvy Kids with Digital Banking Technology

Everyone has got their busy lifestyle, especially parents. Besides sending kids to school and getting to work. Besides providing education to our kids, it's also important teaching kids to save money and it's best to start them young. It's never too late to get start our kid to start saving money, every kid has a wish and I am sure you know that they would asking for toys or gadgets. We can't always buy what they have wished for but it's better to get them to understand the value of money. How they can save money from young, it's not just for buying a gift for themselves but also teaches them that money doesn't comes easily. Sharing is caring, Hong Leong Bank new launch with HLB Pocket Connect, parents can start introducing financial management and education and imparting the value of money to the children from a young age. It is useful app as kids will have to earn money it by setting goals and working towards them and one step closer to their goals.

Teaching your children about money as early as possible is about giving them a head start and time to practice their financial abilities before they become adults.

The topic of financial literacy and education has long been a challenging proposition and perhaps even a difficult topic to broach for many Malaysians. The Malaysian Insolvency Department reported a startling data that youth bankruptcy - involving those aged below 35 - made up 25.2% of bankruptcy cases from 2017 to 2019 in the country. This shows an urgent need to make financial literacy and education a key life skill to be taught to all Malaysians.

Just like charity begins at home, forming a life-long healthy relationship with money should begin at home, as early as possible. In the age of everything digital, parents can now leverage on digital tools to help them educate and engage their digital native children effectively to be financially-conscious and responsible.

HLB Pocket Connect is an interactive and personalised banking platform built for digital natives who are well acquainted with and demand hyper-personalisation, real-time gratification and highly interactive content and experiences. Available to all HLB 3-in-1 Junior Account holders, it has three proprietary features namely Earn, Save and Spend, which enable children to learn to be financially responsible under the watchful eyes of their parents, who are able to guide, manage and monitor their children’s pocket money and savings.

Under the Earn feature, parents can set tasks or goals and reward their children with extra pocket money when they complete them. Not only does this teach children the value of hard work and earned money, it also gives them sense of achievement when they are able to meet their goals.

As the account comes with reloadable Junior Debit Card for children to Spend, parents can have peace of mind knowing that they can monitor and control their children’s pocket-money spending. Not only can they top-up the pocket money through seamless transfer from their HLB Connect, they can set spending limits, control where and what their children can spend on as well as monitor real-time spending of their children.

Parents can also block or freeze the Junior Debit Card instantly if they suspect any fraudulent or improper spend, all done through their HLB Connect. To inculcate a savings habit, HLB Pocket Connect will soon have a customizable Save feature which allows children to set their savings goals for things that they want and allowing them to track their savings through progress reports.

Not many parents know about it, I am glad to share it with you here. HLB has made it very easy to open a bank account. Parents who are interested to open a 3-in-1 Junior Account can conveniently do so by vising the Bank’s official store on Shopee (www.shopee.com.my/hongleongbank.os) anytime, anywhere. Upon “purchasing” the account, a HLB representative will be in touch and come to you, assisting with the account opening process without needing you to visit any physical branches. That's good as you can have your account opening process at your comfort home.

Family first? Have you think of you family?

Good evening to dear readers and followers. It's been a busy week indeed, busy lifestyle for me as my boys are school morning class for the youngest and Sean is schooling on afternoon class. That's not all, their tuition timing also different, so busy that I am alone handling both of them.

There's a lot to consider when you want to start a business. Recently some friends seek for my advice whether they should start the business or not. It's important to know whether there's capital for the business or not. Not just that also to look back on the previous business done whether it's been failing or making money. So many aspects that we need to look into also the family too.

Though we says that never give up on any failure. There's failure only there's success however if it's long term of failing, don't you think it's better to let it go. Not everyone is capable of being a business owner. Because of continuous of failing, and there's debt. You wouldn't want to burden your family.

Though I am not the best advisor, I know starting a business it not easy. There's need of cash flow to support the business. For example you are opening up a restaurant, you need to pay for the rent, renovation, staffs, utilities bills. If you have the cash flow that enough to support for the next six months or even longer perhaps you can come up with the proposal just in case you need a bank loan? Just saying...

This is just my personal opinion.

Reasons for renting a studio

The key for any given place of residence is you need to find something to meet your expectations. For many people who work hard during the day, have stressful jobs, and then still want to go out and have a good time with respect to entertainment, there just isn’t enough time to take care of everything that comes along with owning a home. For those individuals who are simply looking for a place to live with no added stress, a studio is king. These are the reasons you should consider a studio instead of a home purchase for your next home.

Less Stress
When you live in a studio you get the home you want but none of the added stress that comes with being a property owner. You pay not only for the unit itself, but so you can literally avoid the rest of the hassle that a normal homeowner has to deal with. If you have noisy and unruly neighbors as a renter, then you can just tell your landlord and he or she will take care of it for you. What about the recent developments in local crime? As a tenant you don’t have to worry about property values changing because your rent is already set – it’s the landlord who worries about outside problems because he or she owns the unit. What about an increase in proposed property taxes? You aren’t the one who deals with it because you just pay your rent and the owner of the building deals with the rest.

The key to remember is when you are paying to lease a unit, part of your payment is supposed to cover everything that is included with managing the property both from a safety and security point of view but also from a financial point of view. While it might be a bit upsetting to need to pay rent each and every month, a big portion of your payment goes to making sure you don’t have to deal with anything else that comes along with the territory of owning or managing a property.

Flexibility to Move
One big thing about younger people is they aren’t sticking roots into the ground as much as previous generations have. This is a tremendous asset if you are any age and are thinking about the future, because in a global world where there are possibilities everywhere, why would you want to force yourself to live in a specific area if you think you could wind up moving away at some point? Even if you only want to head to another neighborhood in the same city, or if you want to relocate across the world into an entirely different country, if you are a renter then you can go just as soon as your lease term is up. The best part about having flexibility to move is if you are looking for studio for rent with PropertyGuru Malaysia, you can easily see where the best locations are, how much they are going for, and even be able to find out the contact information so you can learn the terms such as how long the leases will be. The major key to studios is the general flexibility that they provide, and if you do a little bit of planning up front then you won’t have to worry about being stuck in an area for long if you want to head elsewhere.

Unexpected Repairs
Unexpected repairs can come out of nowhere. In fact, if you have ever watch a television show where people do any sort of remodeling or renovations you already know how often hidden problems are tucked behind the walls and how often they are actually exposed. The best part about leasing is that if (when) those unexpected problems do rear their ugly heads, you are not on the hook to pay for them. In fact, not paying for those repairs is only the first part of the equation, as once the repairs and updates are made by your landlord, you are the one who gets to enjoy brand new features and appliances and it will be on the dime of your landlord.

Knowing you can truly live in a home that is up to date and up to code is a very nice and secure feeling. However, knowing you will have that same feeling without having to shell out the major dollars to pay for it is an almost unheard of possibility unless you are leasing a studio unit.

Middle of the Night Problems
Every home has problems and that’s just what happens to everyone. However, when you have to deal with a problem at two in the morning, it can be extremely frustrating. If there is a water leak from a busted pipe, you smell gas coming from behind an oven that isn’t on, or your power won’t work, who do you think is going to have to take care of the problem? When you own a home then it is all on you (or the cost will be on you when you call a professional at two in the morning). But, when you are renting the unit, a simple call to your landlord means everything will be taken care of. You will save on the maintenance, supplies, cost of the repairs themselves, and you won’t even have to pay for the possible damages that occur if water did leak into drywall for example.

It’s not just about the actual problems that can come up in the course of owning a home that can make it so hard, it’s the fact that you already have enough on your plate and don’t need any additional responsibility. When you have had hard days of work, have a personal life with personal stresses, and you still need to be back into the office the next day, do you really want to be dealing with emergencies in the middle of the night?

While some people will argue against it for financial reasons, the truth is if you are looking for a no stress, highly flexible lifestyle then you truly can’t go wrong with a studio unit. You pay so someone else takes care of the place and the problems. And, while you are paying money every month, you don’t have to bear any of the responsibility or stress and that’s something you can’t buy.

5 years old missing boy is Safe!

It is scary to know of this news when I was chatting with a friend in the morning on Facebook. She told me that her friend's friend's kid got kidnapped this morning. Heartbreaking to know of this, apparently the mom was on the way with her 5 years old son to go kindergarten. She was stopped by a man asking for directions. All the sudden the man waving another friend of his him nearby the woman and her child, the man hurry carried the child into the Proton Saga black car.

There was a video too about the kidnapping happening in the morning. The neighbour CCTV captured the kidnapped situation and the mom too was in the car but she was then remove from the car by kidnappers.

It's good to know now the boy is back safe home with his parents. You can see the video above, the Taxi driver send back the kid. I am sure every child would be happy to be back with their parents.

Talking of kindergarten, my 4 yrs old kindergarten has announcement that next year the fee will be RM430 a month, it's been increase by RM100. Thinking of this case, I think continue let my son to study in this kindergarten as the compound has guard house. The guard will check on each car that going in and out of the garden.

Starting a computer class is a YES OR NO?

How's everyone feeling today? It's been raining all day long, son given a notice from school. There is no computer class in school so school PIBG plans to start computer classes.

There's no mention of how much fee a month that parents need to pay, the notice is like a survey form asking if parents want to have the primary school to get start the computer classes for Standard One to Standard Five. If parents are agree to it, parents will need to pay a fee for the computer class.

Just like that a survey of Yes or No to get start with computer class and if parents are willing to pay or not. Both in one questions, so you can only tick YES OR NO.

There's no other saying how long the computer class will held, or how much the fee payment.

I recall my school days that we spend not a long time in the computer class and 4 of us were sharing a computer to use. It was so long ago, different school different rules and regulations.

Anyway we'll have to wait and see the outcome of this maybe in September or October.

Looking for the right property

Have you think of where to invest your money? I find that having property investment will be a good idea. I saw the properties in Subang Jaya, it was RM300K ten years ago but the price have almost triple today. No kidding so that's how I find out that my neighbours have been purchasing properties then rent them out. With Internet access today, we can check online for the properties in Malaysia. Check out the PropSocial website, I find the website user friendly and easy to browse.

Going the PropSocial website, I search for the properties in Petaling Jaya as I wanted to know the cost of properties there. I find out that the properties there are more expensive than Subang Jaya. It depends on your budget too, if you are looking for properties of RM350K to RM2 Million check out the website. Petaling Jaya have nearby neighbourhood of Puchong, Shah Alam, and Subang Jaya. I like this website as it stated on how many education, medical, petrol station, banks, malls and public transport available.

Whether you are looking to rent the place or purchase a property, I would suggest to take a look at this website PropSocial. With Internet access today, we can access from home and office. Today, the majority of the property buyers would conduct their research online. I have friends with interest to purchase property but don't know where to get start. Now I can let them know as they have internet access from their home and office to check online.

I find this website user friendly and easy to browse. I also like the Discussion on the website where you can find useful discussion on properties, you can select the location under All Categories. If you like to know the latest information on the properties you can register using your Facebook account or Twitter account to keep up with the news feed based on your interest.

Many of my friends with interest in properties but don't know where to get start, I would suggest them to take a look at this website for more info.

We need car to go places

I see many cars on the road today, no doubt cars are important transportation we used on the road. Talking of cars and transportation, I found this amazing site to share with you. We have public bus, train and other transportation. Somebody prefer having car to go places today, somebody choose to wait for the bus to come but not everyone because of packed bus with crowded people.

Many parents prefer to send their children by cars to school or kindergarten. Some parents even seek for private transportation for the children. Everyone find it safer with car and unlike packed as school bus or mini van. No doubt we are having more and more cars today on the road.

I find parents are willing to purchase cars for their children to go college or University for their children's safety. Somebody told me that bus is provided by college but it takes a long time for them to return home. If you have a choice I am sure you choose the best transportation for your child that is affordable to you.

During my college days, I use public transportation by buses. I took few buses to reach the college. After a year I decided to train and LRT to reach college. We see the benefits of having a car and not having a car. If we go shopping for weekly grocery, car be better option as we put in the groceries.

What do you think the biggest worry when buying a car? I think it is the finance, and how many years you need to finance the car. You either choose to buy new car or second hand car, my dad chooses second hand car because of cheaper price.

Gambler dad sells the three kids!

I bought the Star newspaper to read yesterday and shocked to read about a gambler dad that dares to sell off his children to settle his debt! What kind of dad would sell their children away for money? He does not have the money to pay for his debt and knowing people with interest to purchase his children. The mother of the children found out the matter but it's too late the children no longer with him. I hope she can get her children back.

The three children aged 5, 3 and 1 year old. I am sure the mom is worry to know where her children are.

Annoying call from Bank

Just now I receive an annoying called from the bank. She told me that she's calling on behalf of bank and telling me the offer from bank about the insurance. The fee as low as RM150, well they never mention it is for monthly and yearly. I know she's doing her job calling up the list of names in hand. Just like the other day a lady called me up telling me of free voucher stay at any hotel.

Anyway I told her I have not interest to listen of it at the first place; she insists I listen to the plan. After she finishes reading from the plan, I am quite sure she is reading because it sounds so obvious! She's speed reading from phone. LOL

She told me this called will be recorded etc, and then in the end when I told her I have no interest. She then finished the conversation with survey, asking me if I have interest for their marketing call in future.

Talking of marketing, I have even called up people and students during the work last time. It was to inform them about the classes offer for the language classes and update them on the class going to be held in the centre.

Have you receive any annoying call from bank or others?

Saturday: time for shopping

Today is Saturday I just go back from Midvalley and they are many people there. I saw many people with many shopping bags, today is Saturday there is no plastic bag so you need to pay 20 cent for each plastic bag. Refinance your mortgage when you are not having enough money, I know some people are using doing due to business.

We saw many new cars at the shopping mall, they are Mazda brand and the car that my dear like cost over nearly $200K. I don't think we have the money to purchase the car, our income is not enough to have expensive car. I only think of what we need every day and not for what we want because we can never get enough of it.

My neighbour having their house renovation they must have sought for the refinance so they can renovate the house. With Internet access today it is easy to find Mortgage refinance online. This site is an informational site to educate consumers about finance and bad credit. I hope my sister will take a look at this site because she always in debt. She wants to be entrepreneur but it is not easy being one if you are not able to manage the business and finance well.

The whole week went wrong?

I don't know why this is bad timing for me, it seems like everything went wrong for me. I am sure you want to know why I want my money back. Go ahead and read this post to find, I am sure you are shocked like me to find out.

To everyone I am sure you think like me that bank is the safe place to keep the money, now I am having doubt but there is no choice because bank is definitely the best place. I am lost I don't know if I should closed the saving account and open a new one at another branch. I wonder if I can ask the branch manager to check on my saving from to time and pay attention to one that suddenly putting MYR$7,000 or more in my account same day then take MYR$7,900 away from my saving account.

I am sure you will be pissed like me, my sister told me new system now to open saving account. It does not come with saving account book and you don't get ATM card but Debit Card. That is bad, I don't like as with saving account book you can keep track of the movement of the accounts.

Think twice before purchase

Nowadays I am going to think twice before I purchase, how about you? My dad was here the other day, he treats me the BR ice cream. It is my dad first time to taste this ice cream too, one scoop of ice cream cost around MYR$8. My dad likes the peppermint as I choose the rum and raisins.

My parents were here for lunch and we dine at the hawker stalls because it is cheaper and more choices on food. At first my dad says go dine at Secret Recipe but the food is limited choice and it's expensive to eat there. My dad does not know that it is costly to eat there. I don't want my dad to spend so much money as he is retired. After lunch my dad brings my mom to buy fruits, she chooses the banana and mango.
