How to overcome the challenges breastfeeding working mothers face

Yesterday I attended an event about how to overcome the challenges of breastfeeding working mothers face Panel Discussion by
Paul Jambunathan, Clinical Psychologist,
John Soo, Deputy Managing Director of Pigeon Malaysia,
Saiton-san, Chief Investigator or Breastfeeding Laboratory from Toyko
Lilian Chan, a mom who enjoys breastfeeding,
Moderated by Shaz from Life FM

Being mommy of two boys, my first child I had exclusively breastfeeding him until himself weaned at aged of three and half years old. It's a challenge for moms to breastfeed newborn, I didn't give up on breastfeeding him I started with pumping breast milk, then when he's around 4 months I decided to try breastfeeding him directly, indeed the moment of joy having my son to be able latch on is wonderful.

"How to Overcome Challenge Breastfeeding Working Mother Face". Paul Jambunathan, clinical psychologist and a name many Malaysians are familiar with, will be part of the panel to highlight the psychological aspects of breastfeeding, such as breastfeeding mothers' psychological health and providing emotional support to a breastfeeding mother.

Other panellists are John Soo, managing director of Pigeon; Satoru Saito, Pigeon's general manager and chief investigator of the company's breastfeeding laboratory; and Lilian Chan, a breastfeeding mother of two boys. She's a career woman too, she would pumped her breast milk if she's away for working. She shares her thought being a breastfeeding mother, she has a supportive husband that even brings her baby to her to breastfeed when she's attending an event. It's good to know she has supportive family.

The mother's psychological health plays a big role, according to consultant clinical pyshologist Paul Jambunathan. Paul's wife breastfed their two daughters up until they were two years old. Contrary to popular belief, while breastfeeding is nature's best, the act itself does not come instinctively. Both mother and baby have to learn, which, on top of all the busyness of having a newborn, can be frustratng at times. This could be compounded by post-partum depression, which a majority of mothers tend to experience. Support in family and friends are important for breastfeeding mothers.

John Soo, Deputy Managing Director of Pigeon Malaysia also shares his experience on his breastfeeding journey of his wife. By the way, he's happy dad of third child at aged 50 years old.

At the same time, they also introduce Pigeon's new and improved breast pumps specially designed to provide an efficient, comfortable and discreet method to express breast milk. Backed by extensive R&D, Pigeon's new breast pumps feature better suction and strength controls as well as its trademarked Comfort ProperFit™ flange for that perfect fit.

On the spot during the event, we can see three types of Pigeon Breast Pump and products.

In this event, there's Pigeon Breast Pump launch, Pigeon's three revamped breast pumps comprise a Manual breast pump, Electric Portable breast pump and the Electric breast pump - Pro. Each has been designed to be customisable according to a mother's individual comfort levels.
Pigeon Breast Pump Pro RM790

Pigeon Breast Pump Portable RM350

Pigeon Breast Pump Manual RM199

All three pumps are equipped with Pigeon's trademarked Comfort ProperFit flange, which comes in two sizes for that perfect fit. The Comport ProperFit is a silicon cover with wings to hug the breast and inner curves form a seal to prevent air bubbles, one of the reasons that hamper proper milk extraction.

Where to buy breastfeeding bra?

If you are breastfeeding mom like me, I am sure you will like to shop for affordable breastfeeding bra. I like to shop at AEON for affordable bra price from RM19.90 if not mistaken. There have padded bra but I find the cup size too big for me.

The other day I purchased two pair of breastfeeding bra. I am happy with the haul because the cutting and design of bra I like it so much. Sometimes the cutting and design not very nice, so if you found the right bra grab two or more. You don't want to go back looking for more when they are sold out. No kidding this happened to me before and now if I spot the affordable and comfort bra I just bought two of them.

Breastfeeding bra is useful to breastfeed baby and for pump breast milk.

Need to boost breast milk supply

You know I am breastfeeding mom exclusively for my first boy for three and half years. For my second baby boy who does latch on I do pump milk most of the time. I have low supply of breast milk and I am a week already on the Shaklee 3M trial pack. I love it, I see there is increase of milk supply. I ordered the Shaklee.

I am going to tell my friend who is expecting newborn soon. My friend told me that her milk supply only lasted for four to six month.

I think it is up to individual to see whether this product worked or not. Any breastfeeding mom there takes supplement?

Share your experience on breastfeeding

Being a mom to baby, there is many to do such as care and love baby. Anyone care to share your experience being a mom on breast feeding, let me share my experience with you first. I am mommy of one and I have been breast feeding my son for three and half years. When he was baby he was mostly bottle feed for first few months I know one introduce him to bottle there will be changes of it such as he may prefer bottle feed because it is easy for him to hold but I never give up trying to breast feed him directly. It took me four months to be able to breast feeding direct. I am sure you think that now you can use bottle feed, yes you can I have also pumped out the breast milk and keep in freezer.

We need to learn that if breast milk adds water will left out the nutrition in the milk. You can always Google to find out about breast feeding benefits and how to keep the breast milk then how to use it. Not everyone knows about this but with Internet today you can always share your thoughts of it.

Being a mom is not easy task you have so much to do and care of, as you love your job there is nothing wrong with it. I love my mom and my mom-in-law they are the best, there is no right or wrong but you can also find the source for them to see or let them know of it. My mom did breast feed me but not for long, she told me of it. My mom-in-law has breast feeding her children for three years. I am being a mom, some mom not able to breast feed for long because of work. When you have a short or long journey of breastfeeding I am sure they are beautiful memories. :D

Breast milk add water has no nutrition

Do you know that breast milk add water has no nutrition? I know not many parents or grandparents are educating on this matter. So tell me how you explain to them about this? What will you do if they don't listen at all and tell you that you must put water in breast milk to give baby drink.
